75th Avenue SW Pixel Art

In October 2020, community volunteers came together to install a pixel art mural on the chain link fence along the old Kingsland School site on 75th Avenue SW. The themes for the project were ‘Play’ and ‘Calgary’, and artwork was provided by students at St. Augustine School and pixelated by local artist Colleen P. Funds for the project were supplied by The Federation of Calgary Communities, and work was completed in collaboration with 4th year University of Calgary Urban Studies students under the supervision of Dr. Victoria Fast - Genevieve, Kaden, Gregory, Chelle, Amal, and Joseph.

An excerpt from the October 2020 President’s Message in the Kingsland Post:

“A huge thank you to the Federation of Calgary Communities – Exploring Communities ‘microgrant’ funds that assisted KCA to purchase art to bring to life the CBE fence along 75 Ave at 5 Street SW. The art is vibrant and colorful with mosaic art pieces with the theme of ‘Play’ and ‘Calgary’.

Most of the art was designed by the Fine Art students from St. Augustine Jr. High and with assistance of a local Art Director who arranged small connecting motifs to enhance the theme. A huge thank you to the students who were motivated to create art pieces to make our neighborhood more vibrant. I would like to thank all the passersby who welcomed the pixel art with positive comments and recognize the volunteers who worked on the project.” - Christine D.
